About Kelly Sopp, Author
When I was twenty two, I drove my clunker of a car from Oregon to California, headed for my so-called grown-up life. I had no idea what that actually meant aside from the picture I had idealized in my mind: A cool job; my very own apartment; and if I was lucky, someone to love. The cool job was actually a series of jobs, the apartment was a progression of less roach-infested addresses, and the love of my life turned out to be the person who was my very best friend.
David and I have always made a great team. I’m so grateful for the laughter, beauty, integrity, and challenge he brings into my life. But we haven’t always been great communicators. That took years of practice and a couple decades of maturity. The better we got at speaking what was in our hearts, the deeper our love grew. Twenty-five anniversaries later, I can look back and see how every experience (the good and the bad) has shaped the couple we are today. And it’s only because of those experiences, that I was able to write (and he was able to illustrate) Hey, I Love You…

This is supposed to be about me, but I wouldn’t be writing this if it wasn’t for Kelly. {Spoiler Alert} Yes, Kelly’s my wife. She’s also a great mom, my most trusted advisor, an invaluable business partner, and my best friend. She’s also my harshest critic, my fiercest adversary, the sloppiest housemate, and, worst of all, she’s somehow right 73% of the time (yes, I’m keeping count and have no idea how that happens).
For me, it was love at first sight. I didn’t know it then, though. But I can describe the first time I saw her to the finest detail. It still took me 6 years of dating her to work up the courage to propose (even then, she almost didn’t accept). At the publishing of this book, Kelly and I will have been married for 25 years. Long enough to have experienced “it all”? Maybe not quite. Still, we’ve been through a lot of things that human married couples go through. Over the years, we’ve acquired knowledge from personal experience, friends and family, and relationship professionals that we’re so happy to share with you.
